Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: We Are Hiring!

Lazy Scott couldn’t motivate this weekend to do a blog because he was so sore from running in an effort to keep up with his New Year’s resolution (I love coming up with excuses for my blog slacking).  So here I am at 5:15 pm racking my brain for a topic and praying that an entire blog entry magically appears on my computer screen before I have to leave to go get my train home at 6:11.

Hmmm.  Hmmm. I guess I can’t wait any longer for this blog to appear, but that was worth a try.  OK then.  Let me try one more time, I think this might work this time.  Hmmm. Hmmm.  Dangit as my son says.

So I thought of something.  As you know, the economy is getting better and if you believe what the employment numbers say, employment is getting better too (I personally don’t believe the numbers, I think people are just throwing in the towel). As such, we at Jaftex are in the market for some new talent. We have a couple of open positions.  Please send resumes to greg@jaftex.com.

Job #1:  We are seeking a full-time director of textile design to work in our NY offices. The person must have experience in the home sewing industry and must have some experience managing and directing an in house art department including several supporting cad artists.  The person would have to be an artist that draws as opposed to someone that doesn’t create original art.  The candidate must be able to manage the textile production process from start (engravings) to finish (production).  This would also include dealing with the strike-off process and working with overseas printers.  The applicant must be able to work well with others….especially my family. Finally, the person would have to be able to manage outside licensed designers.  The salary will be competitive.

Job #2:  We are seeking at least one CAD designer to work in our NY offices.  This candidate must have 2-3 years experience as a CAD designer.  The person must be agile in Illustrator and Photoshop and be able to create detailed designs.  The candidate must be able to design repeats, colorings and engraving ready art with details that adhere to development timelines.  The applicant must have an understanding of seasonal and evolving color trends.  The person must be willing to gain a firm understanding of the over the counter fabric and crafts market.  The candidate must be able to collaborate and work well with others.  An added bonus would be if the applicant could do basic drawing, sketching and had some basic painting skills.  This is a 9-5 job and the salary is competitive.

There you go…a blog and help wanted ad combined (a blad?).  But seriously, we would love to have some very talented people fill these positions.  Our office is a great environment.  The fabric Fortunoff’s don’t run around screaming and yelling like a bunch of lunatics. We run a very civilized operation.  A testament to our civilized operation is that barely anyone ever leaves us….most of the people retire from here and head straight to Florida. As I have mentioned before, we have many people that have worked with us for over 30 and 40 years….that is the length of my entire life. Crazy!

(not an actual Jaftex employee, only an illustration for “Blad” purposes)

So please send in your resume or send this to anyone who you think might be qualified for any of these open positions.  Good luck and thank you!

Until Next Time,

Scott
