Duh Scott!

A little time has passed since my trip down to North & South Carolina. I have been debating about whether I should share this story or not and I figured, why not? I am all good with making fun of myself in general, so why should this time be any different? Also, you can’t forget that one of our Jaftex monikers is, “We make fabric fun and funny too!”

The main purpose of my visit down south was to award my customer We’re Sew Creative for winning the previous year’s Jaftex Facebook Live Shop Tour Video Challenge. Thursday was the day that I planned to spend at We’re Sew Creative.

In the morning, I went over to Charlotte to the FreeSpirit offices to meet with the team there. I was in meetings right up until when it was time for me to leave. The plan was that I was to meet a handful of employees from We’re Sew Creative as well as a handful of some of their key customers for lunch.

As the meeting at FreeSpirit is going on, I am carefully watching Waze which is the navigation app that I use. It kept saying about 20 minutes. In spite of what Waze said, one of my co-workers kept saying that Concord is pretty far, you sure you have enough time? I kept saying, “Waze says it is 20 minutes, I am all good.”

It’s finally time for me to go based on what Waze was saying. So I head out. I arrive at Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ at 12:30 on the nose and I am golden. Woot woot! Go me! I walk in. Look around. No signs of the people I am to meet for lunch. At that moment in time, I realized that something was wrong and all I could think was, duh Scott!

It turned out that Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ has multiple locations and I was at the wrong one! So now it’s a little after 12:30. I pick up Waze and punch in Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ in Concord and it is 40 minutes away! OMG! Now, I am really starting to sweat. I get back into my car and kick it into high gear, but every which way I turned there was lunch hour traffic. At that point, it was time to start making some phone calls and let everyone know what a dufus I am.

Fortunately for me, everyone was very understanding. The truth is that I was madder at myself than anything for not giving this a little more thought and taking the hint when my co-worker kept saying, “Concord is pretty far.” With that though, how was I supposed to know that this BBQ joint had 39 locations?

40 solid minutes pass and I finally pull into the parking lot of the CORRECT Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ in Concord, NC. As I was heading over, I conjured up a master plan that would serve to clear everyone’s memory of Scott being a dingus and going to the wrong restaurant. Are you ready for it?

I recalled that I was at the warehouse the day before and I had picked up a bunch of precuts for giveaways at the evening speaking event at We’re Sew Creative. I like to make sure that everyone leaves my speaking engagements with a fabric gift.

Just prior to going into the CORRECT Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ, I dove into the trunk and pulled out a bunch of amazing Kaffe Fassett fat quarters. As you would imagine, when I showed up bearing gifts of Kaffe Fassett fabric bundles, my plan worked perfectly. No one spoke of Scott going to the wrong restaurant ever again. A lovely lunch was had by all and I truly enjoyed the company.

Moral of the story: always make sure to have precuts in your trunk to fix up your screw-ups. Just sayin’.

Please have a great week!
