Houston We Were Hacked & It Could Have Been Way Worse
As if things haven’t been crazy enough in the business world of late, companies and individuals now have to deal with hackers trying to wreak havoc on our computer systems and data. I liken the hackers to terrorists. Like a terrorist, hackers want a ransom, or else they will destroy you. It’s pretty frightening.
A few Mondays ago in the early A.M., I received a call from my brother advising me that, “They got us.” “Who got us?” I asked. “The hackers”, he said. Right then and there, I knew that it wasn’t going to be a good week.
With all of our New York Jaftex employees working a good amount from their homes, it was about time that the hackers found a crack to infiltrate our systems.
It’s really unfortunate that this happened because we were pretty well protected both on the cyber security side and on the insurance side. The hackers still got in, but it could have been way worse. We will now have to step things up even further to make us as impenetrable as possible. With that being said, these hackers are super smart, they are patient and they are persistent so you can never count them out or let your guard down.
It took us about one week to get our systems back up and running. All things considered, this was a great outcome thanks to the tech team we work with.
I really wished I hadn’t learned about all this hacking the hard way, but there is a whole hacking industry out there that involves lawyers, tech companies and insurance companies who are all earning good money off others being hacked. The worst part is that there is really no one to protect you from a hack, but you. In there lies the biggest problem. It’s not like you are going to call the police and get help. That is what really makes being hacked a nightmare. You are helpless if you can’t pay the ransom or get the hackers out.
Let me say that you don’t want to get hacked…..as if you didn’t know that. LOL. However, there is a good chance that you will be hacked in your lifetime so please take all precautions possible always. I highly recommend insurance as that helped a ton. Make sure you have up-to-date malware. And make sure that you are using a VPN (Virtual Private Network). If you don’t know what that is, you should find out.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Stay safe folks!
