I Commissioned Timna Tarr To Make A Quilt & Am Super Excited About It

A couple of years back, one of my sales reps reached out to me to let me know that Timna Tarr would be speaking at Gotham Quilts in New York City right across the street from my office. She told me, “You have to meet Timna because she is so talented.” She went on to urge me to get Timna to agree to design for Jaftex.

I was trying to work it out so I could attend the class Timna was teaching, but I had too many conflicts. I did however still want to meet Timna. As such, I invited her to come visit me in the city to have some lunch, visit my office, meet the team and talk about a licensing deal.

Let’s just say that that lunch at Black Tap Craft Burgers and Beer did the job. The day was a success as Timna agreed to design for Studio E Fabrics. Her first collection, and only one so far, was called Nobel Menagerie. Here are some images from that line:

More recently, I became enamored with all the great stitched mosaic quilts that I saw Timna post on social media. Then that light bulb went off in my head. Why not ask Timna to do a special mosaic quilt for me?

I reached out to Timna and she loved the idea. We went back and forth about the photo to use, the size of the quilt and the small fortune that it would cost me to have this quilt made……but it will be worth every penny and then some. LOL

With that, I really don’t have too much more to say about this as it is still a work in progress and the photos speak louder than words. Please enjoy the photos that Timna recently posted on her Instagram and Facebook pages. I can’t wait for you all to see how awesome the finished product turns out. In the meantime, enjoy the progress.

Scott Fortunoffof #jaftex commissioned me to make a #stitchedmosaics quilt of his kids and himself. How fun is that? I blew up the photo to 30”x50”, drew a 2” grid on top and am now auditioning fabrics and getting to know their skin tones. While they may look like zombies with peeling skin now, as soon as I start sewing, they’ll look like they went to a spa and had pricy exfoliation treatments ?

I have an online workshop for this technique, which is available through April 30. www.coursecraft.net/u/timnatarr

The inspiration is the cover photo for my Facebook page. We are all wearing Zappy Dots t-shirts with Brandon Mably’s Octopus design. In fact, I even got Timna some of the Octopus fabric on black to use in the quilt.

How cool is this? Are you as excited as I am?
