• The Revenge Is Nuts!

I was happy to see that so many of you got a kick out of last week’s blog post where I got inadvertently pranked really badly. If you missed the post, check it out here before reading this post. It seems like most of the comments I received were centered around the revenge that ensued. Today, we will get to the revenge! The beauty of the revenge was that it took place a pretty long time after the Quilt Market incident so it was totally unexpected. The beauty of that was that sometimes the anticipation of getting revenge pranked is worse than getting pranked. You know that feeling of always…

  • The Quilt Market Prank Gone Wrong

The year was 2019. It was the October Quilt Market in Houston. As I usually do at Quilt Market, I show our newest quilting groups to customers that ask to see them and of course try to make some sales. All seems to be copasetic and business is as per usual. Nothing to see here…..for now. Now, let me take you all back in time a little bit. Apparently, my brother and his wife have an ongoing thing where they pull pranks on one another. Nothing too crazy. Just innocuous kind of pranks like my sister-in-law would fill up my brother’s Quilt Market suitcase with Peppermint Patties or something like…

  • The Quilt Market Quandry: To Go Or Not To Go That Is The Question

Quilts Inc. just announced that the October 2021 Quilt Market in Houston is a go. Now, the million-dollar question is whether or not we, the people of Jaftex, will attend? The last Quilt Market that I attended was in October of 2019 in Houston. I can’t believe it will be two years until we potentially return yet again. God Bless Quilts Inc. for surviving through Covid and making it another day to have yet another Quilt Market. I sure hope that the October Market gives them the boost of income to help them bounce back and begin recovering from not having the last 3 Quilt Markets. Now, I would like…

  • .Com Confusion Revisited

I am not sure why, but this topic has reared its head again so I figured that I would clear up the .com confusion. Not too long ago, I got an email that opened my eyes to the madness of what is occurring on the internet these days.  In the email, the customer was writing to me asking how it was possible that a Studioe fabric was being sold on the walmart.com website?  My first reaction was, “No Way.”  I clicked on the link and low and behold, one of the Studioe fabrics was in fact being sold on walmart.com. This was in spite of the fact that Studioe products…

  • What Happens To Fabric That Doesn’t Sell Out Right Away?

As you may or may not realize, each of my quilt shop only companies (FreeSpirit, Henry Glass, Studioe & Blank) offers 55-75 new lines for sale per year. Yes, you did hear that right….55-75! In total, that is well over 220 lines a year and that doesn’t even include stock that we carry for A.E. Nathan, 3 Wishes and Stof which isn’t insignificant either. As you can imagine, our 90,000 square foot warehouse is very full all the time. As time passes from when we start shipping a new line, patterns from each group start to sell out and the group is then what we refer to as “broken.” Thereafter,…

  • How Do We Find New Designers?

I am always looking for new blog subjects to cover. As such, I have started to compile a list of topics for the future. With that, today, I want to discuss one of the questions that comes up fairly frequently. That is, how do we find new designers at the Jaftex Companies? Let me start off by saying that it isn’t as easy as you would think to find new designers. The process definitely takes time. At first, you need to see if the designer is a viable option to produce the significant amounts of art needed to make quilt collections for the length of the contract term. Then you…

  • As If I Didn’t Have Enough On My Plate Already (Part 3)

These stories of theft and misappropriation never end for us at the Jaftex Corporation. I can probably write an entire blog series or a full book about all these situations. However, I am not going to do that. I will however continue to go after every person trying to take shortcuts by stealing our designs. As I become more successful at the “takedown”, I am definitely more motivated. Thank you in advance for sending any info on fakes, liars and thieves to me at scott@jaftex.com. With that, I am going to wrap up the series of, “As If I Didn’t Have Enough On My Plate Already.” Today I am going…

  • Harvest and Halloween Fun and Fabric

The Jaftex family of products is in love with the special time of year we call Harvest and Halloween. We take special care making designs that fulfill the various needs of families across the country and across generations. We have also been at the forefront of the textile industry in making Halloween fabrics that are especially creepy with glow-in-the-dark using photo luminescent materials. The glow pigment remains in the fabric even after washing! Our free projects are the best part of introducing a fabric line, and the projects show off our fabric designs and make people excited to make something great with the collection. Here are a few images from…

  • As If I Didn’t Have Enough On My Plate Already (Part 2)

I am back with Part 2 of, “As If I Didn’t Have Enough On My Plate Already”, where I discuss how unsavory people lie, cheat and steal to the detriment of my business and my companies. In part 2, I focus on Quicktion who digitally prints designs in India that he has no right to be selling whatsoever. A few weekends ago, I was just enjoying my day when my phone started blowing up. Ugh, what now? Can’t I just have a peaceful weekend? It turned out that for some reason a lot of customers and consumers learned about Quicktion the thief this weekend. I started receiving lots of screenshots…

  • As If I Didn’t Have Enough On My Plate Already (Part 1)

To say that I am busy these days would be an understatement. Work and life are quite exhausting and time-consuming, now more than ever. I keep thinking, dreaming and wishing, if there were only more hours in the day or if I just didn’t need to sleep as much. And, as if I didn’t have enough on my plate already, there are people out there that insist on finding their way into my business to consume me with their negative energy and cheating ways. Allow me to elaborate with two examples of how people are wasting my time, energy and money by forcing me to have to deal with their…
