Sandra Magsamen for StudioE Fabrics Throughout my years of writing and illustrating books for children, one of the most enjoyable parts of the process has always been developing fun, novelty components to awe young readers. It is this drive to develop that ‘wow’ factor that led me to create the Huggable and Loveable Collection with StudioE Fabrics where each sewable book kit has adorable detailing and personality! The team at StudioE Fabrics and I have invented sewing kits with fun stuffed tails, legs, ears, feet and more! The sky’s the limit! Beyond being cuddly and cute, toys with a sensory element to them aid in early childhood development and promote…

  • The Jaftex Facebook Live Video Challenge Begins Today!

My blogs are usually posted on Monday, but in light of the fact that the 3rd Annual Jaftex Facebook Live Video Challenge starts today, I am posting this before the videos start rushing in. Below is a talk that I gave about the challenge to retailers who are members of the Jaftex Retailer Facebook Page. If they haven’t created their video yet, this post will serve to encourage them, it will provide them with some last minute pointers and also provide a few other things to think about. Good luck to all! First off, let me say that if you can’t tell already, I am super excited about this contest. …

  • Color Pop Studio Pops In

A review of new collection: Beach Bound What inspired you to make it? I grew up in Natick, Massachusetts. Some of my fondest memories occurred in the Summer months. My Dad would get off early from work. He managed a gas station and was able to leave early on those perfect beach days midweek. My Mom would begin to prepare picnic lunches for her family of four daughters. I remember the wicker picnic basket and the retro colored plastic plates and cups. Lunch would not be complete without her deviled eggs and of course the thermos filled with coffee for my dad. She would neatly gather everything needed for a…

  • Excuses For Not Participating In The #JaftexVideoChallenge are Lame

We at the Jaftex Corporation (think FreeSpirit Fabrics, Henry Glass Fabrics, Studioe Fabrics, The Blank Quilting Corp., A.E. Nathan Co., Inc., 3 Wishes & Fabric Editions) are ready to launch the third iteration of our Facebook Live Shop Tour Video Challenge for our valued fabric reseller customers.  I know that I am going to hear lots of excuses as to why people won’t be submitting a video this year, like last year,  so I am going to debunk those excuses right here and now and recycle last year’s post.  Funny how some things never change. I hope I can convince you to participate before August 30th, 2020 when the contest…

  • Guest Blog By Studio E Fabrics Designer Pepper Cory

Oh Wow! Look at the Colors! While the title of this blog post was a tag line in my youth (and denoted you’d recently dabbled in a mind-blowing psychedelic), as a sane and sober 60-something, I still utter the same line. But it might not be about super-bright flashing colors. Not this time. But, “Oh, wow! Look at the colors!” was exactly what I said when my sample bolts of new Peppered Cottons landed on my doorstep a week ago. And then today, a box from my friend Sandi Irish included the sample quilt made from those colors and I fell in love all over again. This selection of new…

  • Meet Designer Pam Vale

The Ocean State How does this make you feel? Scenic shores, quaint coastal towns, seaside cottages, fresh seafood, sailing, surfing and miles and miles of beautiful beaches. Honestly, it makes me swoon. Rhode Island is a weird and magical place that has significant meaning for me and my family. You can imagine how happy it made me that my first fabric collection with Jaftex and Studio E would be inspired by and bear the nickname for Rhode Island… “Ocean State.” Do you believe in fate? A chance meeting over 25 years ago led me from the west coast to this special place. The place where my own parents met each other almost…

  • New World, New Sales Plan Of Attack

Happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend. Happy belated Mother’s Day to all you amazing mothers, grand mothers and great grand mothers out there. Now that our fabric world has been turned upside down on its head due to Covid 19, we at the Jaftex Corporation have had to kind of “re-invent” ourselves in the manner by which we are selling our newest fabric collections. The thing is that the days of independent sales reps visiting shops is on hold for as long as social distancing is in play. Perhaps sales rep visits will become a thing of the past, but the jury isn’t out yet. Time will…

  • Just The Attention We Needed, But Not How We Wanted It To Happen

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you had a nice relaxing weekend and got to enjoy the quiet time. Today, I want to discuss the silver lining in this new Coronavirus world. The silver lining is that mask and ppe sewing has brought some much needed and well deserved attention to our amazing fabric industry. Of course, this wasn’t the way that we wanted our industry to gain positive press, but beggars can’t be choosers and we will take it however we can get it. As they say, “All publicity is good publicity.” Over the years, me, my companies and so many others in the industry have put much effort forth…
