• Today Is Rosh Hashanah!

Happy Monday Friends, Today our offices will be opened, but I am not working as I will be at temple praying in the AM and then chowing down in the PM. It is the start of Rosh Hashanah which is the Jewish New Year Festival. This holiday is marked by the blowing of the shofar. The shofar is a ram’s-horn trumpet used by ancient Jews in religious ceremonies as seen in the photo below. This holiday starts the ten day of penitence for Jewish people and culminates in Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is the most holy day of the year for me and my Jewish brethren. I will spend that…

  • #scottsentme2019 Is Now Available On Facebook Too!

I hope you had a great weekend and made progress visiting lots of quilt shops for the #scottsentme2019 challenge. I hit none this weekend as my daddy duties are in full swing and I am stuck at 14 visits. Quite frankly, my daddy duties have been crushing me lately and it has been impacting my blogging. Did anyone even notice that I didn’t post a blog last week? But seriously, my kids are very active and it’s hard to find time to write. I cannot wait for the work week to start….that is my weekend. Consider it a 5 day weekend. On top of that, I am still coming from…

  • Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: Customer Service Anyone?

Recently, I was talking with my brother about vendors that we deal with through work and vendors that we deal with in our personal lives.  We were commenting about how surprisingly poor the customer service was at so many companies that we deal with.  You would think that owners and vendor employees would be conscientious enough to do their jobs and do it with pride.  However, that really isn’t the case whatsoever for all too many companies.  To be honest, as a business owner, I don’t really get it at all. The complaints about these vendors run the gamut.  On the one hand, it’s like an act of congress to…

  • Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: Challenge Excuses Are Lame

On July 29,  I posted about the second iteration of The Jaftex Facebook Live Shop Tour Video Challenge.  I know that I am going to hear lots of excuses as to why people won’t be submitting a video, so I am going to debunk those excuses right here and now and recycle a post that I wrote for last year’s contest.  I hope I can convince you to change your mind before August 30th, 2019 when the contest ends. I keep asking myself, “Why wouldn’t a shop owner want to create a video and be a part of the challenge and the fun?”  And in my brain there are reasons…

  • Dos & Don’ts To Become A Beloved Customer (Part 2-The Don’ts)

Last week I blogged about the things consumers need to do to be a beloved quilt shop customer. This week I am going to discuss the things you DON’T want to do if you want to remain a beloved customer. Before I do that though, I want to mention that there are lots of good reasons to shop local and support small businesses like quilt shops as compared to big box stores. Here are a few: Shop owners donate to and help local guilds. Shop owners even let guilds use their shops for meetings and other purposes. Small businesses pay various types of taxes which are cycled back into the…
