Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: How To Draw Consumers To Your Shop For The Challenge
Happy Monday! Today is Rosh Hashanah which is the start of the Jewish New Year. With that, I would like to wish my fellow Jewish friends a Happy & Healthy New Year. I will not be in the office today. I sure hope the word is spreading about my challenge that encourages consumers to visit as many brick and mortar quilt shops in the US & Canada before the end of November. If you haven’t heard about it, here is the link to the contest. Please share the link as much as possible so a huge level of participation can be attained for everyone’s benefit. Please make sure to use…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: One Challenge Ends & Another Begins
Happy Monday Friends, As of the time that I am writing this blog post, the August 2018 Jaftex Facebook Live Shop Tour Challenge winner has still not yet been determined. The winner will be the video challenger with the most likes as of September 3rd at 12 pm eastern standard time on my @jaftexpresident Facebook page. At the time that the last video challenge submission was posted on August 31st, there were just over 70 entrants from mostly US shops and a couple from overseas and Canada. As of this current moment, the top shop has over 750 likes. As for the views, I saw a couple shops that received over…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: All Good Things Must Come To An End….The Challenge
Happy Monday Friends & Familia, This week, I am fortunate to have a little bit of time off with my family before summer ends and school restarts. This vacation is not getting in the way of what has been quite an exciting month on the @jaftexpresident Facebook page. The August 2018 Jaftex Facebook Live Shop Tour Challenge has proven to be an interesting and insightful challenge. It has also been a learning experience for many, including your’s truly. I sure hope the challenge has had a positive impact on the industry and each of the challengers’ businesses. Most importantly, these videos should help to inspire shop owners to embrace social media as an important part of their regular business. At the time that I am writing this post,…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: Challenge, Challenge, Challenge
For the month of August, for me and this blog spot, it is all about the August 2018 Jaftex Facebook Live Shop Tour Challenge that I am hosting on the @jaftexpresident Facebook page. The challenge is a global one. No fabric shop owner in the world is left out from submitting a video for what should be a fun and slightly challenging challenge. The only difference is the prize as I am limited in the distance I can travel to deliver the prize. Oh trust me, I would love to go to Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, what have you…it’s just not practical now to be away for an extended period. Lastly,…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: The Challenge Is Going Global!
Happy Saturday Friends, I have some news to report that I am sure you will be happy to hear….I hope. It is August 4th and the August 2018 JAFTEX Facebook Live Shop Tour Challenge is off to a nice start with 3 shop videos submitted thus far. Personally, my month off from social media has been nothing short of hard work, but such is life. I can handle it and to be quite honest, I am loving this challenge, I love seeing all these different shops and I love seeing how they all differentiate themselves. So the elephant in the room is the fact that I didn’t make the challenge…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: August 2018 JAFTEX Facebook Live Shop Tour Challenge
Dear U.S. QUILT SHOP OWNERS (excluding Alaska & Hawaii), I am running on fumes these days and my summer is flying by. It is very depressing. Quilters are really an exhausting bunch. I am sure you knew that already, but it was news to me. Anyway, I want to recharge, enjoy August and take a break from being so social on social media. Do you blame me? For those of you that follow my blogs at www.scottfortunoff.com, I hope you saw my recent post about shaking things up in the fabric industry. Instead of me waiting for you to shake things up, I am going to kick start the shaking…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: The Yenta Is Back!
Happy Monday Folks! The Yenta is back and ready to talk your ear off. For those of you that are new to my blog posts, the Yenta is one of my alter-egos. Like any good Yenta, this Yenta has some gossip for you. (Put the word Yenta into the search bar at www.scottfortunoff.com to see the other Yenta-blogs.) If you didn’t know, the Quilt Market is in early November this year. Normally, it is over Halloween weekend, but this year there is some city wide event going on. I guess this is the good news and the bad news. On the one hand, maybe more people will attend because they…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: Shake It Up Baby!
Last Friday, Laurie and I went to a party. As is the case with most Fridays, I don’t love to go out because I am beaten up from the past work week. I am more of a Friday night early dinner type of guy and a Saturday night party type of guy. I needed a cocktail desperately. As I stared in to space, I started to focus on the bartender. She was very skilled and all the drinks looked amazingly delicious. I was especially mesmerized as she shook the drinks up and poured them into the glasses. Each looked better than the next and it was hard to select one.…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: Bits ‘N” Pieces
For those of you that are new to my blogs, I have a couple of different formats for blog posts. This one is called Bits ‘N’ Pieces and it is just tidbits of stuff instead of a one subject post. This week I am heading to Allison Park, PA to visit with Karen Montgomery of The Quilt Company. Karen is a very active quilt shop owner, FabShop article writer and event coordinator among many other things. Needless to say, Karen is busy, but she gets stuff done which is what I love about her. Recall that she is the brains behind the #sewrevolution #sewdays event and she deserves a big…

Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: Seeing & Hearing Good Things About #SewDays!
Happy Monday & happy early 4th of July! I am proud to be an American. We are so lucky! Our offices are closing on Tuesday July 3rd at 1 PM and we are closed July 4th. I hope that you have had the opportunity to watch the fabric-tainment on my Scott Fortunoff Executive Facebook Page. If not, it isn’t too late as all the videos are still there. Within the last week, I visited and did store Facebook live tours at three lovely shops. I am having a blast making these videos. I get the opportunity to bond with the shop owners and that is very positive for business relations.…
