Tales Of A Fourth Generation Textile Executive: What’s The Point?

I was in this massive car accident.  As I lay on the side of the road thinking that I am going to die, I start to fade in and out of consciousness.  Suddenly, a bright light shines in my eyes and I am thinking that it is time for me to go to heaven (I am an optimist).  My life flashes before my eyes in an instant.  Is it my time?  Is this it?

Then, out of nowhere, I see a beautiful silhouette of a woman.  I can’t speak or function because I am so badly injured, so she grabs my wallet to try to figure out who I am and any other info that might help her take care of me.  She first looks over my license and a big smile develops.  With my eyes, I kind of say, “What are you smiling about?”  She replies to my eye question, “I know you.”  “You know me?”  “How?”  You are Free Sewing Machine Scott.  A chill runs through my body.  “Are you freaking kidding me?”  “Is this for real?”

The angel then proceeds to save my life by bringing me to a hospital for proper care.  Had she not taken care of me, I would have been left for dead.  She stayed by my side the whole time while I recovered.  She took such great care of me.  While I was resting and recovering in the hospital bed, I started hearing this very soft and familiar voice saying, “I had a nightmare, can I sleep in the bed with you?”  Now, I am thoroughly confused.  Suddenly, I awaken to realize that it was all a dream….that my 6 year old son so rudely interrupted.  I peek at the clock and it is 315 am and I am alive and now sleeping in the bed with my wife and son.

What’s the point?  I think I better keep giving away more sewing machines.

With that being said, I wanted to let everyone know that I have lots more machines to give away and not so many requests.  Please keep sharing the information and tell people to send in their request for a new machine.  Thank you.

    WOW! What an imagination. Made me laugh. Had a 3-year old wake me from a deep sleep to turn the BIG light on in the bathroom so he could go potty. According to him the night light was not big enough to see. No dream associated with the potty light call to get out of a nice warm and comfy bed though. 🙂

    I am one of thousands of folks affected by hurricane Harvey and I’m writing this from the camper in my front yard that is our temporary home. I live in a small rural town and 90% of the homes and 100% of the businesses were flooded, including our brand new schools. We have lost much but we have also been blessed in many ways by folks like you who are trying to make a difference.
    As far as sewing goes, I know only enough to get me by. Growing up, my maw maw made a lot of my clothes and she tried to teach me to sew but I wasn’t very good at it and when you tell a 12 year old to rip it out and start again, well, I gave up quickly. She also taught me to embroider and cross stitch and jitterbug, a Cajun dance, on her kitchen floor. When she died 25 years ago I got her older sewing machine. A 1970’s model. I tried again but children and life got on the way and eventually I gave the machine away. I have always regretted it. The last two summers my soon to be 11 year old, Lily, has taken a sewing camp and has really enjoyed making things. While we didn’t lose a machine, it would be nice to have one when our home is livable again. Maybe Lily and I can make curtains since some of ours were ruined. It would also be great to see a younger generation keeping the art alive. Thank you so much for what you are doing! I have shared the info on my Facebook so hopefully you will start getting some entries soon. I only know a handful of folks who did not flood so I’m certain there are folks who lost their machines.

    Who are you and what are you thinking? Giving away FREE sewing machines to people who need them? You are a WONDERMAN! Thanks so much for your contributions to those who need help! I do not have the resources to help on such a grand scale BUT to keep you doing what you do, just let me know when you need help at any Quilt Market and I’m there to do what needs doing!       Sorry, but from this note, I can’t tell what you are referring to. So it is hard to answer what my wife said, but if I had to guess the answer would be…….NO!
