Using Video For The Win

As I am sure you know already, I am a huge fan of creating lots of videos for my business, but also, I like to encourage my customers to do the same for the benefit of their business.

This all started after attending the Social Media Examiner Conference, about 5 years back, where I heard one of the guest speakers say that “80 percent of what we consume on social media will be video.” You have definitely heard me say this before and I like to practice what I preach and still do.

Since attending the conference, my video game has definitely been stepped up a few levels, if I couldn’t say so myself. At first, I was just creating a lot of Facebook live videos with my phone….pretty basic and low budget all by myself. Now, things are very different. With that, today I would like to walk you through some of the progress that I have made in business continuing to use video as a key tool. In no particular order, here goes:

  • From Facebook, I started to use Instagram more often posting mostly pictures and a few videos too. For me, Instagram hasn’t proven as effective as Facebook up to this point, but I think I just need to continue to work to create Instagram-specific content and things will pick up. Unfortunately, I still favor Facebook as that is where it all started and where I have the biggest following. To be honest, if I created more videos for Instagram specifically, it would probably go a long way. I need to work on that. Note to self.
  • In the last year or so, I hired Marcus my videographer. He helped in a big way to expand my horizons. Not only that, but we started doing shorts, commercials and so much more. We are having a lot of fun which is a good thing.
  • One thing is for sure, my acting is still mediocre at best. The thing is that I don’t think anyone cares about my acting because they just want to see and hear about the fabric. No one really cares about my many bloopers and neither do I. I just keep moving forward and that is what matters. If you are doing business for video, you should do the same!
  • Over the last year or so, I added a video studio to my attic which has worked out great. Marcus and I have a nice little set that is very user-friendly and ready to go at a moment’s notice. We have lots of fabric, costumes and other stuff up there that we use for the videos.
  • Since Marcus started, I am now on Tik Tok too. Who would have thunk? The truth is that you can find quilters on every social platform. You just need to pick your spots and find the platforms that are most beneficial to your business. For now, we keep testing the waters to see how things progress and see what’s moving the dial on engagement. You just need to be patient and put in some effort to build content to interest people as Rome wasn’t built in a day. With that, don’t give up so quickly. Give yourself a fair chance.
  • Aside from Tik Tok, I now have my own YouTube Channel. This is where just about everything we tape is housed. You should go check it out and see what I have been up to.
  • The most recent thing we have been doing is Scott Reacts. This is where Marcus picks out a bunch of images and I comment on them. I try to say funny things, but if I am not funny, Marcus usually figures out a way to make fun of me. I guess it works out either way. It’s all good with me.

That’s pretty much a summary of where we are today on the video production expansion front. Below, I would like to share a few of my more popular videos for you to watch and see how we really have ventured out of our comfort zone.
