  • #SemesterWithScott

Good Evening Students, I am your fabric professor for “Semester with Scott” which will run through the end of the year. You can call me Scott, El Presidente or Professor Fortunoff. Have a seat please. Please sit down. Quiet! Ok, enough over there. Hey, hey! Allow me to begin already. I am sure you heard this one before, but allow me to enlighten you. Look to your left. Look to your right. Half of the people around you will not graduate from this class. Does that one sound familiar? I think I heard that at least twice in my lifetime and fortunately I wasn’t in the wrong half at any…

  • Guest Post from Missie Carpenter, designer for Blank Quilting Corp.

A while back, I showed you my latest fabric line, Barn Dance.  It’s been so much fun making quilts with this fabric!  Very soon, I can show you, but for now, it must remain a secret!  Barn Dance is out in stores now so please check your local fabric shop for yardage.    My next line to be shipped in December is Abby’s Treasures and I was lucky enough to get some strike-offs to create something very special.  Before I show this to you up close and personal, I’ll tell you a bit about how Abby’s Treasures came to be… I’ve always been drawn to reproduction fabrics.  I love my…

  • How A Fabric Release is Born

A week or so ago, I drove to New York City for the first time since I moved to my new home. I definitely didn’t get off on the right foot as the drive was three hours. Yeah, I don’t think I will be driving back anytime soon. When I finally got the office, it was time for a design meeting. I thought it would be interesting for you to hear about our design meetings. On October 1st, our new October 2020 quilt collection samples will be shipped out to our sales reps and distributors all around the world. As such, it was time for us to review, critique and…

  • Summer Excitement

It’s mid-September and I wanted to tell you about two exciting things that happened to me and my businesses this summer. With Covid in play, opportunities presented themselves and we were fortunate to have been able to capitalize on one of them…..for now. When Covid first hit, we thought it was going to be the end of the world so to speak. We thought we would feel a lot of stress on our business in a negative way with cancellations, store closings and lack of demand. It turns out that there was a lot of stress created, but due to mask making and a lot of free time for sewing,…

  • The Fabric Industry Wins With The Jaftex Facebook Live Video Challenge

As I hope you know, for the month of August, my company is hosting the Jaftex Facebook Live Shop Tour Video Challenge. (It would be great if you could take the time to go to my @jaftexpresident Facebook page and view as many of the amazing shop tours as possible.) Today, I wanted to take a moment to tell you why I think this contest is so important for our industry especially during the pandemic. For the first time in my fabric career (about 15 years), fabric is getting a lot of invaluable attention due to the mask making frenzy. This is much needed attention that our industry has been…
