Finishing Strong With The FreeSpirit Fabrics 2023 January Collections

Guest post by Nancy Jewell, Managing Director, FreeSpirit Fabrics.

Welcome to FreeSpirit Fabrics’ January 2023 release. Here you will find a bit of déjà vu, an enticing inspiration that gives you every reason to buy more fabric, re-imagined fabrics from your favorites and new opportunities that play in harmony with your existing stash.

How do you say? Let me tell you!

Mediterranean Hexagons Quilt featuring August 2023 and Classics by Kaffe Fassett Collective. Designed by Kaffe Fassett, from “Quilts in Morocco” by Kaffe Fassett, pg. 110.

Kaffe Fassett Collective August 2023 offers 57 SKUs with re-imagined designs by Kaffe Fassett and new designs from Brandon Mably and Philip Jacobs. And, P.S., if you loved the Big Blooms Quilt, wait until you see the Mediterranean Hexagon Quilt – it is the perfect floral follow-up.

Cozy Quilts by Daniela Stout featuring Kaffe Fassett Collective Re-Order Classic Plus Pre-Cuts.

Plenty of Cozy Quilt inspirations feature the new Kaffe Fassett Collective Classic Plus pre-cuts that begin shipping to retailers in March. These very achievable quilts by Daniela Stout will become repeatable favorites. The best part, these new Kaffe Fassett Collective Classic Plus pre-cuts are reorderable through 2024.

Night Shade collection by Tula Pink. Photo courtesy of Sandra Smith.

The sinister Von Black sisters make a comeback in Night Shade {Déjà vu} by Tula Pink. This yearly revisit gives quilters a new shot at an old collection – with the benefit of 10+ years of Tula’s own growth and color explorations. If you missed the first collection, now is the time to stock up. Shipping in July, is a true “one and done” opportunity.

Fraction Quilt featuring Storybook by Seth Apter and Worn Croc by Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements.

Meet Seth Apter, a mixed-media artist from New York City. Storyboard (August, Digital) is his first collection and reflects his journey as an artist, in all its layers. Abstract, textural, grungy, distressed, colorfully muted, deeply layered, and filled with text – used as a design element, as an expression of meaning, or as the perfect modern complement to Tim Holtz’s Eclectic Elements. We encourage you to mix it up.

Harmony Quilt featuring Harmony by Carolyn Gavin. Designed by Anna Maria.

Also, new to FreeSpirit and Conservatory Craft curated by Anna Maria is Harmony by Carolyn Gavin (September). This collection is all about exotic butterflies, peacocks, scarlet macaws and toucans co-existing in a paradise of bouquets and tropical palms, creating a harmonious magical land.

To continue the creative momentum, we have a plethora of digital collections. Watercolor swirls in Enchanted Skies by George Mendoza; the eco-print aesthetic of Nature’s Contours by Katrinka; and organic, modern patterns of waves and tide lines sharing the secrets of Sea Sisters by Shell Rummel, these August deliveries run the gamut from vivid thrills to serene calmness.

Bubbles Quilt featuring Mariana by Rachel Hauer and Alchemy by Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements.

Mariana by Rachel Hauer (August), brings to life the wonders of creatures who lurk in the vast depths of the ocean true to Rachel’s keen eye and fine-line detail. Marine life lovers, beach goers, coastal home décor aficionados . . . all would be giddy to make or be gifted a Bubbles Quilt. Audition 81 various-sized bubbles to create a story that floats to the surface and dances on top of the ebb and flow of Alchemy in Intrigue by Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements.

Geo-Gyre Quilt featuring Bio-Geo 3 by Adrienne Leban. Designed by Robin Ruth Designs.

Bio-Geo 3 by Adrienne Leban including a combed cotton 108” quilt back (September), is selected from her series of drawings that convey an exuberant flow of pure visual energy. The Geo-Gyre quilt and program from Robin Ruth Designs bring these purely intuitive freehand designs together into an artistic quilt simply made with Robin’s ruler system. Exclusive online video tutorials from Robin Long will guide you through the project.

Rounding out January is Floral Pets by Mia Charro (July), which is a tribute to our loyal, fluffy family members — our pets; Water Garden by Sanderson (September), a contemporary interpretation of eastern cultural influences; and Rust & Bloom by Sarah Sczepanski (September), inspired by the beauty of nature with a nod to the evolution of living things, made from her original monotypes.

From the musings of Tula’s sinister sisters to the faithful companionship of your family pet, FreeSpirit Fabrics’ January 2023 release is filled with unique fabrics that call you to gather fabric, dream of ideas and simply create.

I hope that was enough eye candy for you for one day. If you are a shop owner, please reach out to your sales rep or contact customer service to buy this collection. Or, you can always order online or contact me at scott@jaftex.com.

If you are a consumer, make sure to reach out to your favorite fabric reseller to ask them to buy your favorite lines. Don’t forget that these lines don’t ship until July-September 2023 so you are going to have to be patient. I am sorry for being such a tease. In the interim, make your wish list by visiting the FreeSpirit website.

Well, that was inspiring. I hope you enjoyed my concise, not so concise, synopsis and analysis of the latest and greatest brought to you by the team at FreeSpirit Fabrics! What’s your favorite line?
