The Last Blog For 2022
What a wild year it has been yet again! Before we close out 2022 though, I would like to say a few parting words, make a few comments about the environment, provide a few observations, make a few predictions about 2023, talk about resolutions and sew on. In no particular order, here we go: I could go on and on, but I will spare you more of my rant. However, I do want to say thank you. Thank you for regularly reading my blog posts and commenting. Thank you for following me on Facebook @jaftexpresident. Thank you for following me on Instagram at scott_fortunoff. Thank you for following me on…

And The Winners of #ScottSentMe2022 Are…..
We just put another year in the books for the #ScottSentMe challenge. Now, I want to chat briefly about this year’s contest, tell you who the winners were and what prizes they will win. Before I dive in though, I wanted to mention that, aside from the first year, this year we saw much fewer numbers of visits. My guess is that this was due to the economy and the increased cost of fuel among other inflationary pressures. In the past few years, the winners reached over 200 shops which is pretty unreal if you ask me. This year, the winner went to 127 shops. This is a huge difference…

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
We are getting very near to putting another year in the books. Before we do that though, we have lots of December holidays to celebrate. Then we top it off with a New Years’ celebration. With that, I wanted to take a moment to wish all my customers, my customer’s customers, my employees, my brand ambassadors, my family, my friends and everyone else in my work and family life a fabulous finish to the year. If you have work holiday parties like I have this week, I hope those are great for you. These are well-deserved celebrations for making it through another tough year. It’s also a way to say,…

The Rise & Fall Of Fabric.com
As you may or may not have heard, Fabric.com recently announced that they were getting out of the fabric business completely. In this blog, I will discuss the rise and fall of fabric.com among a few other things related to the company. For starters, let me clear up one major misconception that I keep hearing. Fabric.com was owned by Amazon.com. Many people think that Amazon is now going to buy Fabric.com, but that is not the case. Rather, Amazon.com is closing Fabric.com and getting out of the fabric business for the time being which will likely be forever. For a little bit of history, a gentleman named Stephen Friedman started…

#ScottSentMe2022 Is Almost A Wrap
Like many things in life, all good things must come to an end. That is the case with the most recent iteration of #ScottSentMe. As we approach the end of November 2022, #ScottSentMe2022 is just about to wrap. Would you believe that this is the 5th year of #ScottSentMe? I can’t believe it. It’s pretty great that we were able to make it this far with what started out as a half-baked idea to have consumers visit quilt shops and shout out, “ScottSentMe.” Which was usually followed by, “Whose Scott?” LOL! Basically, the idea was to help drive consumers to quilt shops just like what a shop hop does. I…

Shop Small Business
As we arrive upon the last couple of weeks of November, I wanted to mention a few things before I dive into this blog post about shopping locally and shopping small business. Don’t forget that #scottsentme2022 ends at the end of the month. With that, please make an effort to hit up as many shops as possible to try to win that contest. Also, in light of the Thanksgiving holiday with many people traveling to see family, it’s a great time to see some shops outside of your usual territory. And lastly, while I am talking about Thanksgiving, I want to wish you, your family and your friends a great…

Thank You, Thank You Very Much!
Earlier this month, I attended the Quilt Market in Houston. This was the first time attending in 3 years due to Covid restrictions and market being “postponed.” Seeing all my fabric peeps at the Quilt Market got me thinking about how thankful I am for all the people in my life as I couldn’t do what I do without them. Let me start off by saying, “Thank you” to everyone in my work and personal life. A person just can’t say thank you enough as my mom instilled upon me as a child. Now, I would like to call out some specific groups of people for which I am so…

Houston 2022 Quilt Market Recap: The People I Saw
I am sure you never expected to hear this from me, but I must say that I was really happy to be back at the Quilt Market in Houston. It was near the excitement I felt when I attended my first market. For me though, the biggest highlight of the entire market was all the amazing people that I saw. It all began when I ran into Tula Pink & Anna Marie Horner, separately, upon checking into the hotel. It was a great reunion marked by warm hugs, kisses (on the cheek) and big smiles. I think the feelings were mutual and everyone was longing for that face-to-face contact like…

Oh Canada!
As the days, weeks, months and years keep flying by, we at Jaftex are always seeking out ways to help all our customers thrive. In the current case, we are helping our Canadian customers, but we are also helping to strengthen our foothold in Canada. Let me tell you about. Since we bought FreeSpirit Fabrics in 2018, FreeSpirit has been our only company that sold to Canadian customers through direct independent sales reps. These reps are multi-line reps so they sell FreeSpirit and various other brands with no particular loyalty to one brand over another. In lots of cases, these same reps work for international distributors too as the Canadian…

Quilt Market Is Upon Us
I head out to Quilt Market this week in Houston, TX. With that, I wanted to let everyone know what team Jaftex has in store for those attending. For those who can’t make it, we will definitely have some Facebook live videos to share as well as lots of other good content post-market. This will be the first time that we have Marcus with us and you know that he has a knack for great videos. Stay tuned. First things first, let me share our booth information with you and that of our associated Jaftex designers: 3 Wishes – 946 A.E. Nathan Co., Inc. – 944 The Blank Quilting Corp.…
