Resolutions, Who Needs Them?
Happy New Year everyone! I must say that the first Monday of the New Year is usually a dreaded day. It means back to the grind and a lot of days and weeks ahead. I, however, am going to take a different view. I am not dreading Monday. You know why? I am not dreading Monday because I have already broken my New Year’s resolution and now I have nothing to worry about. Well, not nothing, but no resolutions. Yeah, I know I said I wasn’t going to have any resolutions this year, but then January 1 came and I was like, “Scott, you gotta get into a better workout…

The Last Blog for 2020
What a wild year it has been! Before we close it out though, I would like to say a few parting words, make a few comments, provide a few observations, make a few predictions, talk about resolutions and sew on. In no particular order, here we go: 2021 has to be better than 2020 so we got that going for us. Our fabric, quilting and sewing community will continue to grow. I see growth in the male quilting category as well as the under 18 category especially. I will be sure to try to help to grow those categories with the help of my awesome retail shop owner customers and…

Merry Christmas & Thank You To All Jaftex Customers, Consumers and Employees
What a crazy year it has been! It has probably been the craziest in my life and I presume many of your lives as well. We have missed out on so much this year and it’s really been a bummer for sure, but we have pivoted and adjusted to the new “new.” It has definitely taken its toll on us, but we are all stronger for the better. Hopefully, this is just a blip on the radar and we will get back to some semblance of normalcy sooner rather than later. Bring on 2021! For me, I really missed travelling around and seeing customers, consumers and employees face to face.…

After 8 Classes, 8 quizzes, 1 mid-term and 1 final exam, I am very proud to announce the Semester with Scott Class of 2020!! We did it! Thank you all so much for all your support during this semester. I had a blast teaching you about the fabric industry. It’s always nice to recant my experiences in this wonderful industry and I hope you had an amazing time as well. Hopefully, we’ll see some of you apply to Jaftex for a job in the near future! Let’s do a quick review of everything we learned in this course. Part 1: We began our journey by taking a look into the…

Semester With Scott Week 7: The Life Of A Fabric Line
I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving and remain healthy and safe. Class is back in session and the final exam is quickly approaching (Sunday, December 13 live at 4 PM eastern time on my @jaftexpresident Facebook page) so you all better start studying up because some awesome prizes are on the line. Up to this point, we have talked about how we put a fabric collection together, how it begins with design, then goes to the mills, then to strike-offs and so much more. If you missed any of this, please go back and watch the sessions that you missed because they work best if you see them…

Semester with Scott Week 6: Art, Mills, Strike-offs & So Much More
Today was a very special day for me taping week 6 of Semester with Scott. It was special because I had an amazing guest to explain where the art begins, how it is sent to the mills for strike-offs and ultimately how it is printed. The special guest was Lenny Kuperman. Lenny Kuperman has worked for Jaftex for 51 (yes! really!) years and please notice that his last name is not Fortunoff and he is not related to my family. He is just a great guy and a very loyal and hardworking employee. Quite frankly, this is pretty remarkable. Normally, I would write a blog that aligns with my weekly…

Semester with Scott Week 5: The Warehouse
This is the fifth “Semester with Scott” blog post. In the first half of the semester, we focused on many aspects that ultimately lead right to where we are today…..the warehouse. This is where the magic really starts to happen as this means that the fabric is getting closer to arriving at your favorite quilt shop for you to purchase. Before I get into the heart of this blog post, I wanted to remind you to make sure to watch the class video about the warehouse this Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at 7:30 PM Eastern on my @jaftexpresident Facebook page. Please share my page and the videos with all your fabric…
